Character Information:
Name: Full name Okami Amaterasu, but usually called Amaterasu or Ammy; also known as Shiranui to some.
Canon: Okami (video game)
Canon Point: Post-game (after the implied return to the Celestial Plain)
Age: Unknown. Physically an adult wolf in its prime, but if it were up to me, I'd say as old as the sun, which is about 4.5 billion years.

Note: I'll be using the Japanese names for characters, so Waka is Ushiwaka, Nagi is Izanagi, and so on. ... Except Amaterasu because I'm too used to calling her Ammy.
Setting:
Amaterasu's world, Nippon, is very much like ours way back in the Heian period of Japan, if demons, spirits and other supernatural, mystical beings had been wandering amongst the humans. The land is divided into two main areas (three, actually, but some would consider the third to be slightly more different than the first two), Western Nippon where more technologically advanced areas such as the capital city Sei'an lie, and Eastern Nippon where more rural villages reside. Of course, considering the most advanced mechanisms humans could create were lanterns and turning kabuki stages, the technology there wouldn't impress anyone but the locals.
Up to the north, in the cold, snow-covered land of Kamui, are another kind of people called the Oina, made up of those who can transform into wolves at will. The origins of their race are a huge mystery, but it seems like they know of the gods thanks to their proximity to the Poncles, a race of tiny people that have served as heralds for Amaterasu for years. A few actual humans could be seen here, but all had come from the south anyway.
Meanwhile, there are other areas that are not available to humans, such as the Moon Cave where the large eight-headed serpent Yamata-no-Orochi had resided before he was defeated by Amaterasu. There's also the Dragon Palace, an underwater city made of mermaid-like people called the Dragonians. As humans are incapable of searching for the secret whirlpool entrance to the Palace, everyone thinks this place is simply a myth. For a more land-based hidden area, there's the Sasa Sanctuary, a large inn run by sparrows and can only be found by going through a special gate.
Two hundred years prior to the beginning of the game, a time when the people still believed in gods, a wave of demons descended upon the land, headed by Yamata-no-Orochi who began to gain power by demanding a maiden sacrifice every year for ninety-nine years. However, when he'd arrived on Nippon, Amaterasu herself had come as well and spent the next ninety-nine years waiting for the chosen one that would help her slay Orochi. The people though lived in fear of her, thinking her a familiar of the demon and named her Shiranui, meaning 'white wild majesty'. On the hundredth year, it's revealed that this chosen one was a man named Izanagi, and while they did manage to defeat Orochi, Amaterasu had been mortally wounded and died. During the events of the game proper, this story is known as the legend of Izanagi and Shiranui.
However, one hundred years after these events, Yamata-no-Orochi was brought back to life and once again the demons come back, which then prompts Amaterasu's own return, albeit a little less powerful than before due to her death. The game attempts to make you think that regaining power in order to defeat Orochi is the ultimate goal, but in fact Orochi is simply one of the many minions of the Emperor of Everlasting Darkness itself, Tokoyami no Sumeragi.
The presence of demons made a large impact on the humans, as they're troublemakers and in large numbers, managed to nearly destroy society at one point. Despite all this though, the people are peaceful and welcoming to their neighbors, human and animal alike, and thanks to Amaterasu's efforts, not only had the demons disappear from the land, but the peoples' faith in the gods were restored as well (more details on the game's events in the Reference section).
See, Amaterasu's primary role, as her title of "Origin of All that is Good and Mother to All" states, is she's the main god of Nippon. However, due to human nature, people have been forgetting about her and the powers of the gods, thus not almost no human left know who she is-- some do make comments about her looking like Shiranui or a certain statue of the wolf erected when it died, but no one had ever realized she was a god until Issun worked his heralding magic.
Amaterasu's original home is called the Celestial Plains (or Tamagahara), a large floating mass of land that cant be seen from any place in Nippon. However, there used to be a bridge from that place from a platform near Sei'an city-- it is, obviously, gone now. Though if one has a sufficiently advanced vehicle that can fly, such as a rocket or the Ark of Yamato (think Noah's Arc, except with alien technology, is capable of flying and was once the prison for all the demons in the game), they can reach it.
The Celestial Plain was never given much detail outside of a few images, though it obviously has a large snow-capped mountain, a plain and a large forest. It used to be the home of the gods and Celestials, mysterious angel-like beings, but two hundred years prior to Orochi and Amaterasu landing in Nippon, the Celestials had been wiped out thanks to Orochi and his minions. Due to this, Amaterasu, her children and Ushiwaka are the only inhabitants of the Plain now. As it had been left alone for two hundred years, it's most likely become very different, as seen in the third person sample.
Personality:
Ammy can be fairly playful, engaging in races, digging games, fishing and other sorts of activities with those around her. She does these purely to have fun and be around humans, because they are the people of Nippon, and in a way, her own children. After all, she’s been called the "Origin of All that is Good, and Mother to All", and said to have a pure heart so many times.
She's honestly very quirky with the tendency to be attracted to women because they're just so pretty, and if they fulfill certain points, she tends to zero in on their... great tracks of land. No one knows why only women get this treatment, but hey, women are awesome! Let's leave it at that.
There's also her habit of outright ignoring a conversation if it becomes too long or too boring due to her aversion to too many words. At worst, she will fall asleep. At best, she will zone out, and she will only listen properly to her closest friends. Ammy also tends to fall asleep when there's nothing really going on, as evidenced by her idle animation, which shows that she can be a little impatient and has no tolerance for boring stuff. Nothing to do? Sleep.
When she's not zoning out or playing along though, she's pretty chill. It takes a lot to get her excited (usually it's food or a pretty lady though) or pissy (insulting her, harming others for no good reason, generally being a dick) and because of this plus her attitude towards long-winded speeches, some think she's just a plain old dog who doesn't understand. For someone with an animal face, she can be pretty expressive when she feels like it-- she has a derp face, a 'bored now' face, and even a 'prepare to be erased from the face of the earth' face.
Ammy can also be very, very rude. If she thinks you need a physical wake-up call, she will do it. If you need to be somewhere and are too scared to do it, she'll drag you to it. She is blunt and frank when she feels she needs to be, because honestly, if someone doesn't do it, who would? But she’s fluffy and kind to most that come around and treat her with respect. ... Unless you’re a demon. If no one vouches for you or you cant give her a good reason to not kick your ass, prepare to be exorcised.
She thinks and acts funny-- that’s because she’s got her own world. Her head’s up there in the clouds, and it’s always been there, so no luck getting it out. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t think of profound shit though, because she does. Everybody knows the strange people speak with the most value. It's just that she cant speak human, so she's not able to give her personal insight into things and needs people like Issun to be her mouthpiece. Ammy doesn't get frustrated with this, contrary to what you might expect since she's used to it, and sometimes when there's no one to translate for her, she can make her own words. After all, she does know how to write.
However, that doesn't mean she would actually speak all that much. In the game, she has a bark button which you can abuse to your heart's content, but if you don't push it at all, the few times she does make noise is during important scenes. She's content to be silent most of the time, and make noise only when she feels she needs to-- and even then, they're usually barks and other random noises, not actual words. Ammy honestly prefers actions over words because... well. As stated before, words are boring.
Yet, carefree as she is, she is still Nippon’s protector and caretaker, and acts the part when she believes her “children” are being threatened by evil forces such as Yamata no Orochi, the Ninetails, and Yami. She becomes serious, even dangerous, and determined to fight and win for her people. That said, Ammy is not stupid-- she is, after all, smart enough to understand the needs of her people and how to solve their problems in a discreet manner (divine intervention after all is something that needs to be accomplished discreetly) despite Issun holding her paw every step of the way (except when making her way around modern devices and items because seriously what in the world are those, that's going to take a while), and therefore she knows that she should only enter fights if she is absolutely certain that she will win, or if it's for a good cause.
She loves all the people of Nippon, good or bad, believer or non-believer, human, animal or even lesser deity. She does not discriminate, she does not judge-- she is fair and equal to all. As long as they are in Nippon, they are her children and she is their divine mother, and she will act the part. If they want a god, so be it. If they want a protector, so be it. If they want a confidante, so be it. If they want a playmate, so be it. If they want a helper, so be it. If they want a divine gardener (hurr), so be it. This may extend to other people too, even if they're not from Nippon. After all, she doesn't discriminate.
Considering she's already died at least once and has lived for a very long time, being in a completely different place than Nippon or the Celestial Plain amaterasu wont be too confused about her surroundings. She'll take it all in stride and enjoy what she can, even-- especially when/if she finds out they're on the back of a giant turtle! What could be more fun than that? It's a novelty and she wont hesitate to take advantage of any opportunities she sees. Especially when it comes to new kinds of food. To Ammy, it wont be some mystical place between life, death, dreams and all that-- it's just another world.
However, she wont completely forget her home, especially when they'd just gotten to the Plain. She'll still want to return obviously, and no amount of fun and new experiences in the In Between will ever make her forget. ... Well, she may occasionally forget that time has stopped in her world but that's another thing.
Appearance:
Amaterasu basically looks like an overlarge white wolf, either with or without funky markings and weapons, depending on who's looking at her. She has three forms depending on her power level: plain white wolf for when she has no power or when the person looking at her has no power or doesn't believe in gods, post-rebirth form which is her default during the video game wherein she has power, but not all of them, and the "Shiranui" form, which is her true form and she can only take this when on she's at full power-- which she is currently.
Abilities: Brew yourself a cup of tea, get coffee or make some popcorn. This is gonna be long. I'm not joking.
Celestial Brush Techniques (pre-written by yours truly): Her main abilities, the Brush Techniques give her reality-warping powers by painting on her surroundings with the Celestial Brush-- which I think is her tail, though canon never gives us something clear-cut about that issue even though MvC3 admits that it is her tail-- or anything that can be used to write or draw. However, there's a drawback-- Ammy needs ink and/or paint for all of her Brush Techniques and her ability to use her weapons. No one knows why this is, but it's a game mechanic to keep her from being too powerful. If she runs out of ink, say good bye to everything else until the pots refill themselves, which they do over the course of several seconds (faster with the Golden Ink Pot equipped), but those are several seconds of being locked out of everything. No ink, no Brush Techniques, no Divine Instruments, no special powers, just what her body can do.
Note: There are indeed two new Brush Techniques introduced in Okamiden, but it's not mentioned whether or not Ammy knows them, only implied that she did after the events of Okami.
Divine Instruments:
Godhood: Basically, how many hits she can take before actually taking damage. This is at its maximum level.
Astral Pouch: She has five stomachs-- one real, the rest Astral Pouches that act very much like stomachs. When completely full, the Pouches can be used as extra lives, and resurrect Ammy if she dies at the cost of emptying a Pouch. Have fun trying to fill them all.
Creating Life: Basically. It does her title as Origin of All that is Good and Mother to All justice. Even without ink, she trails flowers and plants wherever she walks-- and I do mean wherever. She's also capable of creating other beings through sheer will alone, as evidenced by the appearance of Chibiterasu, her youngest son and protagonist of Okamiden, without even mating.
Others:
• She's fast, and she's physically impressive-- not in that way, get your mind out of the gutter. By physically impressive I mean that she can smash a wall in with her head, perform canine kata if she jumps into the air and carry a fully-grown man on her back without having his weight keep her from all her dog parkour. Most of these she learned in the Dojo, and are not connected in any way to her ink or Brush Techniques, so if she loses ink, she can still perform them.
• Being a god, she can understand different languages despite not being able to speak them-- after all, there's a difference between understanding a language and actually speaking it. It doesn't matter what the language is, whether human or animal (or even some other tongue), she knows what you're saying.
Inventory:
Solar Flare reflector
Tundra Beads rosary
Thunder Edge glaive
10 ink pots powered by the golden ink pot (10 is the maximum in-game)
4 Astral Pouches
Water Tablet
Money pouch with a buttload of various mon, koban and oban coins worth a million yen. (Honestly, that's like spare change compared to its full capacity)
Suite: Earth sector, 1-floor suite. As a god in wolf form, Amaterasu has an affinity for nature and is most comfortable when surrounded by plants-- hence why she has so many plant and nature-related abilities. Screw elegance or luxuries or even a few extra square meters of living space-- she's not going to bother with them anyway.

Reflector: Appears to be a spinning disk on her back, and is the simplest weapon, as it's very easy to use. As the main, it can be swung around to deal some very good damage. As the sub, it can be used as a shield. The first weapon she acquires is a reflector, Divine Retribution, and becomes her signature weapon. Shiranui's however is Solar Flare, the last weapon that can be found, and only obtained when Ammy has all brush techniques in her possession, and is at full power.
Rosary: A string of beads that circle her neck. The fastest out of all her weapons, and possesses a long range. As the main, it can be swung around like a whip. As the sub, the beads can be fired as projectiles.
Glaive: A sword, or a seriously big fucking blade that can put Cloud's sword to shame. It's extremely slow to use, but have the most damage out of all her weapons. As the main, it is used like a normal blade, with chargeable attacks for heavier damage. As the sub, it allows Ammy to lunge at her opponent for a chargeable strike with widespread damage.
